Experimentation

SUBTRACTION CUTTING
METHOD
First place the two pieces of material on top of each other. Then measure approx 60cm x 135cm, then cut around both pieces of the material so they are the same size. Once this is done bag out the material leaving one side open.

Place the pattern pieces on the fabric so that they can be joined to create an arm hole. Once the shape has been created cut out the inner shape (subtraction). Then sew the side seam together.

Place the pattern circles on the fabric below the subtracted material. This will allow for a tunnel which the body can travel through whilst wearing the dress.

In order for this tunnel to be created the material has to be laid on itself so that the subtracted circles can be sewn together in pairs.

Once the circles are sewn together the lining need to be sewn in place. This is done by pulling it through the circles, then pulled inside out so that the shoulder straps can be sewn together. This lining then can be used to pull the length of the dress up, by sewing the hem

DROP HOLE TECHNIQUE
PATTERN MAGIC BOOK
This is the book which the drop hole technique was from. in the book there are many different techniques which i would like to experiment with as i enjoyed doing the drop hole one. I also feel that the book is able to give a good understanding and easy to understand directions.

THE OTHER TECHNIQUES

The above pages show other techniques in the book. I have chosen these two pages to add to my blog as both of these techniques could be applied to my concept of skin. As they are able to show techniques of gathering fabric in different areas of the garment, which i find interesting and would like to learn how to develop this in design.
